Positivity Tip

How do you keep positive throughout the week? This week’s tip is something that I started implementing years ago. It may surprise you and you may disagree. The tip is to turn off the news. By regulating how often I view the news I’m able to be focused on what I want rather than what I don’t want.

Set a Timer

If your day is like mine then you may feel like there are not enough hours in the day to do all that you want to do. One of the most effective time management tips that I have implemented is to set a timer. By setting a timer I am more disciplined and strategic in what I accomplish. Set a timer whenever you go online to assist you in keeping focused rather than getting distracted and wasting time.

We have so many technology tools at our fingertips but sometimes let events take over and manage our lives rather than ourselves managing our events. Set a timer for each activity throughout the day and you will see your productivity and profitability increase.

You can always add to the time after the timer goes off if you need it. You always have choices that are yours to make. Time management is just a bell away!

Clothes That Fit

Wearing clothes that fit will go a long way in improving your personal image and brand. Fit is key to building a polished and put together look. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on clothes to create an impactful professional look. The secret is in the fit of each clothing item. Do not wear clothes that are too tight, that show bulges, and also avoid wearing clothes that are too loose.

Sometimes it is easy to get sidetracked into thinking that the size is the important factor. When you purchase the appropriate size for your body, and then go the extra mile if needed to invest in having your clothes tailored, you will create the most pleasing look possible. By having your clothes tailored, you will look like you have lost weight and are in better shape.

When your image is polished and put together you will have more confidence and your words become more impactful.

Go through your closet today and purge those clothes that don’t fit! Happy shopping tomorrow!

Seizing Opportunities

Treasure chest
Have you ever noticed how opportunities are all around you? We get what we focus on. Once you start noticing what is happening it will be amazing to realize the possibilities which exist. Treasures are like opportunities. There is often variety in the size and shape.

I realized this after launching a podcast. The realization that creating an audio course was possible. The day this happened, was an empowering revelation!

No one told me to start. I had to seize the opportunity before me and begin. Now after six months of building, I have a course to share with those seeking to energize their personal brand.

One of my biggest fears has been starting a project and not finishing it. It is amazing to observe the lifecycle of a project. The last 10% of completing a project can be the hardest. I found that out as I put the finishing touches on a product I developed. I had a speaking tour scheduled; this created the perfect springboard to launch the product. I could not pass up the opportunity.

A lot of sweat, tears and loss of voice occurred in completing the last 10%. I knew if I didn’t seize the opportunity to go to market I would kick myself. What happened? I reached a goal and now hundreds can enjoy the value of this course.

When opportunities rise up, ask yourself the following questions:

1. Will this help me reach my goal?
2. What time and resources will it take?
3. How will this opportunity impact my team? (Employees, Co-Workers, Family)
4. Will I kick myself if I pass it up?
5. What’s the benefit?

Being decisive is one of the greatest traits of a leader. You are the leader of your own life and destiny. What opportunities are around you now just waiting for you to embrace?

Here’s a trunk full of opportunities to explore: sign up for my free newsletter, buy my audio course on energizing your personal brand or let me know how we can work together today with an email to Linda@Lhyatesconsulting.com.

Disconnecting Tips For Executives, Entrepreneurs & You

Laying by the Pool

How do you disconnect? Am I the only one who struggles with this? I tell myself – “stop looking at your phone” or “the day is over, turn it off.” I think at times I’m starting to conquer this obsessive need to stay connected and then I have a relapse.

Part of the purpose of writing this post is to allow me to vent on the subject. Hope you don’t mind and what I share will be a help to you! Here are a few strategies I have been implementing to become proficient at disconnecting:

1. Take a 2-day weekend. I have been so driven to check things off my checklist that I have noticed I am not taking time to relax.
2. Set office hours. That means not checking email, voicemails or text after a certain time of the day.
3. In the morning not looking at my phone until my self-care routine is complete.
4. Being present with whomever I’m having a conversation with.
5. When working on projects, setting my phone to vibrate and turning email reminders off.

Implementing these practices has provided more productive days and happier nights. My family doesn’t complain as much and my energy is stronger. Now the goal will be to plan my vacations as the first priority of my yearly planning segment. I know I can conquer this! By disconnecting we will be able to be more connected when it counts.

Don’t worry if you try calling or emailing and I don’t answer right away, I will be with you shortly. I promise! This is something you can do for clients, family members or staff right now.

Happiness Comes Through Sacrifice

Shoes

What have you sacrificed to meet your goals? Lately I have been learning a lot about what I can live without. What I thought were needs has changed to be wants.

Sacrificing brings blessings. I know it can be hard at times to sacrifice. It seems like those are the times that the outcome is sweeter. For instance, when you want to buy that pair of shoes that cost a lot of money and it’s not in your budget. You have a choice, go into debt, go without something else or wait.

Our society is a “got to have it now” society. I believe we have lost the art of sacrifice. I have found that when I step back and check why I believe I need something I become clearer about my priorities. Here are some questions I use to make a wise decision:

1. Will it help me reach my long-term goal?
2. Will it help others reach their goals?
3. What is the harm in waiting?
4. What is the harm in not waiting?
5. How will practicing control make me stronger?

These may not be comfortable questions. Sacrifice isn’t comfortable – but it is worth it in the long run. As we sacrifice our wants to help another there are positive chemicals that ignite in our brains. Those chemicals make us feel happy. That provides the answer to why it is always better to give than receive. What are you willing to sacrifice to get your goals? What will be the benefit of reaching your goals? As you stay focused on those benefits the path will be easier.

May you reap the blessing that sacrifice provides and may it fill your life with beauty!
