How do you become a top performer? You must read 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. This book is a classic! Stephen Covey, the author, was a world renowned performance consultant.

One of my favorite tips is: to “seek to understand” and “sharpen the saw.” The insights in this book will assist you in your professional and personal life. Mr Covey refers to the “soft skills” being the “hard skills.” Once we understand how important those soft skills are, we are better equipped to succeed in all of our endeavors.

Monthly Planning Day

One of the greatest time management tools I have discovered is setting aside a business planning day. By working on my business rather than just in my business I am able to be innovative and more productive.

Scheduling a least one hour each week will help you accomplish more than you ever thought possible. It’s amazing how time flashes by. When you are strategic in developing your business and life planning activities you will be successful in achieving your dreams and objectives.

I challenge today to set time this week to work on your business for just 1 hour. You can thank me later. If you want to expand your potential then set aside a 4-hour chunk of time at least once a month. Focused time working on your business will generate outcomes you have only envisioned.

Set a Timer

If your day is like mine then you may feel like there are not enough hours in the day to do all that you want to do. One of the most effective time management tips that I have implemented is to set a timer. By setting a timer I am more disciplined and strategic in what I accomplish. Set a timer whenever you go online to assist you in keeping focused rather than getting distracted and wasting time.

We have so many technology tools at our fingertips but sometimes let events take over and manage our lives rather than ourselves managing our events. Set a timer for each activity throughout the day and you will see your productivity and profitability increase.

You can always add to the time after the timer goes off if you need it. You always have choices that are yours to make. Time management is just a bell away!

Clothes That Fit

Wearing clothes that fit will go a long way in improving your personal image and brand. Fit is key to building a polished and put together look. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on clothes to create an impactful professional look. The secret is in the fit of each clothing item. Do not wear clothes that are too tight, that show bulges, and also avoid wearing clothes that are too loose.

Sometimes it is easy to get sidetracked into thinking that the size is the important factor. When you purchase the appropriate size for your body, and then go the extra mile if needed to invest in having your clothes tailored, you will create the most pleasing look possible. By having your clothes tailored, you will look like you have lost weight and are in better shape.

When your image is polished and put together you will have more confidence and your words become more impactful.

Systems Magnify Productivity

Systems

There are lots of ways to do our tasks from day-to-day. The most efficient path is through systems. Systems have the power to magnify our productivity in every task we undertake. You may not think that you use systems throughout your day. If I were to follow you around all day, (not in a creepy kind of way), I bet we would find all sorts of systems you have implemented. You might not even realize it.

When I moved to Florida years ago I stayed with a friend and they had in their entryway a plate for keys to go. I thought what a great idea! We instituted this process. As we come in and out throughout the day we drop our keys on the plate. This has solved the problem of searching for keys when running out the door to an appointment.

Another system is to park your car in roughly the same place or area each day you go to work. That solves having to look for your car at the end of the day. This is a simple example of daily systems to create efficiency.

Having systems in your business is smart. Implementing checklists is even smarter. I read this great book called “The Checklist Manifesto” by Atul Gawande. In it he explores how checklists are important for every type of business. I have been utilizing checklists and the stress reduction has been awesome!

As I continue to grow and evolve these systems will be a critical piece of my business to grow. As new vendors and employees come to work with me the learning curve shortened. Systems give you clarity so that you can spend your time in more creative ways.

I challenge you to put in place systems. You can also change or drop them but having them will free you up to do more of what you want to do.

Linda’s Success Tips: The Power of Taking a Deep Breath

When I was a young woman I had vocal lessons. Yes, singing is a major part of my life still to this day. When you take vocal lessons, a major focus is on how to breathe correctly. Through the years, I have come to realize that it is easy to hold your breath when you are feeling stressed or anxious. Perhaps you have noticed that this happens to you on occasion.

When you feel overwhelmed or something rattles you. Stop, take a deep cleansing breath then move forward. Oxygen provides a multitude of benefits. All of our systems work better when we tune in to how we are breathing.

Strategies For Sleeping Like A Baby

The power of a good night’s rest will assist you in achieving your goals and dreams. I find that when I don’t get a good night’s rest my day and even week goes amuck. As I have gotten older I have come to learn the rhythm of my body and what can help or hurt my ability to sleep well.

For several years I averaged roughly 4-5 hours of sleep each night. Day after day, week after week I noticed a few things started to happen. I noticed my mind wasn’t as sharp, I saw weight gain, and became more irritable and lost a lot of energy.

Once I took a step back and began changing my lifestyle and habits these symptoms began to change. When you have young children and they keep you up at night you begin to covet a good night’s rest. Here are some of the strategies I use to promote the best sleep possible:

1. Disconnect from email and electronic devices at least 30 minutes before going to bed.
2. Eating dinner by 7:00 pm
3. Evening bedtime routine
4. Retiring to bed about the same time every night
5. After a stressful day, filling the tub with hot water and essential lavender oil.

If you want to have the best health possible, you should strive to get 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. If you are a night owl, then start by retiring 15 minutes early and you will notice a difference in the way you feel the next morning.

Keeping balanced will be the avenue to reach your goals and objectives. Having a good night’s rest is a foundational principle in achieving balance. Happy dreams my friends.
