Linda’s Success Tips: The Power of Taking a Deep Breath

Linda H. Yates – The Image Energizer shares the power of taking a deep breath and how it will help you be more productive and profitable.

When I was a young woman I had vocal lessons. Yes, singing is a major part of my life still to this day. When you take vocal lessons, a major focus is on how to breathe correctly. Through the years, I have come to realize that it is easy to hold your breath when you are feeling stressed or anxious. Perhaps you have noticed that this happens to you on occasion.

When you feel overwhelmed or something rattles you. Stop, take a deep cleansing breath then move forward. Oxygen provides a multitude of benefits. All of our systems work better when we tune in to how we are breathing.

Thanks for watching and sharing these success tips! I know that you can uncover, realize and accomplish more each day as you implement these tips! Please be sure to share your thoughts and comments. If you have any questions please put them in the comments below and I will respond personally.

Servant Leader Who Inspires

servant-leader_0

Have you ever had a leader that inspired you? I know I have. I have been fortunate to have had many such leaders. The common trait with each of these leaders is that they serve me.

As a member of Toastmasters International, I have seen first hand great leaders that have blossomed before my eyes. There is a difference in motivation when a leader is self-serving rather than serving others. What is the key to success? The following are what I have seen servant leaders do:

1. Stay focused on the individuals that they have responsibility over. Whether it be in a corporation or member association, those who lead are the most successful when they look to empower others. When that happens they as a leader look even better.
2. Great listeners. Those who are effective leaders listen to those they serve.
3. Make the hard decisions. To be a great leader there are days you have to stand alone. Servant leaders are there in the beginning and will be there at the end.
4. Being an example to emulate. Those leaders that are the most successful realize that their actions speak louder than their words. Their integrity leads their life and is not stuffed in a drawer.
5. Keep balance. Leaders understand the need to keep balance. They draw their strength and energy from a variety of sources and realize when they start to get out of balance.

You can learn how to become a servant leader. A servant leader uses their head and heart in leading. Being a powerful leader starts with humility. Keeping the perspective of who you serve will be the catalyst to success.

Strategies For Sleeping Like A Baby

good-nights-sleep

The power of a good night’s rest will assist you in achieving your goals and dreams. I find that when I don’t get a good night’s rest my day and even week goes amuck. As I have gotten older I have come to learn the rhythm of my body and what can help or hurt my ability to sleep well.

For several years I averaged roughly 4-5 hours of sleep each night. Day after day, week after week I noticed a few things started to happen. I noticed my mind wasn’t as sharp, I saw weight gain, and became more irritable and lost a lot of energy.

Once I took a step back and began changing my lifestyle and habits these symptoms began to change. When you have young children and they keep you up at night you begin to covet a good night’s rest. Here are some of the strategies I use to promote the best sleep possible:

1. Disconnect from email and electronic devices at least 30 minutes before going to bed.
2. Eating dinner by 7:00 pm
3. Evening bedtime routine
4. Retiring to bed about the same time every night
5. After a stressful day, filling the tub with hot water and essential lavender oil.

If you want to have the best health possible, you should strive to get 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. If you are a night owl, then start by retiring 15 minutes early and you will notice a difference in the way you feel the next morning.

Keeping balanced will be the avenue to reach your goals and objectives. Having a good night’s rest is a foundational principle in achieving balance. Happy dreams my friends.

Business Building Tips

Business Building Tips

Being an entrepreneur has been a fascinating journey and one that has lessons through every turn. Business building is as important if not more so than working in the business. Taking time to focus on what you want will create the pathway to achieve all of your goals and objectives.

In business building it’s okay to change direction just as if you were planning a road trip. There may be several different routes you could take that will all get you to your destination. If you were to get into the car and just start driving with no thought of your destination, or a plan to reach that destination at a certain time, you would find yourself wasting valuable energy and precious resources.

One of the best business building strategies and tips I have found is to set aside a couple of hours each month devoted strictly to reviewing goals and laying out a path to complete them.

These are the things I have to do in order to have a successful business building session:

1. Schedule a time on my calendar
2. Turn off my phone
3. Shut down email alerts
4. Work in a relaxed atmosphere – sometimes I like to go offsite
5. Stay hydrated

Each of these tips has created a positive environment and experience to my business building sessions. After I have spent time working on my business, I feel higher motivation to achieve my goals and the momentum carries me through the next few weeks of doing the business.

Your business deserves your full attention. The focus on building your business, rather than just being in the business, will pave the road to faster and more stable growth. Are you ready to watch your business grow? Then pull your calendar out now and book it!

Servant Leaders

Lighthouse

Last week in the article “The Extra Mile”, the reference “servant leader” was used to describe the general manager of a historical hotel where I had one of the most memorable service encounters of my life. So that you can see I keep my promises, let’s explore together what a servant leader typifies.

What comes to your mind as we use the term “Servant Leader?” Do you have a positive reaction to the term or do you believe it describes someone with weak qualities? I have found some of the individuals in my life who are my heroes, own this time-honored and obtainable, guiding value. To be a Servant Leader you recognize those whom you serve are the most valuable asset to your organization. Your job is to enable those you oversee or lead to be able to do their job to the highest degree.

Servant Leaders have many attributes. Some of the most important attributes they have is the ability to inspire, lift and empower those they lead. I love the word inspire. This word means to give breath or life. Think back with me on those who have inspired you the most throughout your life. Hope this brings a smile to your face. These individuals are willing to put others ahead of themselves. They understand if we seek each other’s interest we all prosper rather than just the individual.

Perhaps you are trying to learn how to be a Servant Leader but are afraid you are giving up control. The highest form of control is self-control. When you exercise self-control, you have the ability to determine how you will react in any given situation. Let me share with you an experience by Frank Koch from The Naval Institute magazine, “Proceedings.”

Two battleships had been on training assignments at sea for several days in extreme weather conditions. Frank Koch was serving on the lead battleship and was standing watch on the bridge as nightfall came. Due to poor visibility and patchy fog the captain remained on the bridge overseeing all the activities.

Shortly after dark, the lookout on the wing of the bridge reported, “Light, bearing on the starboard bow.” The captain asked, “Is it steady or moving astern?” Lookout replied, “Steady, captain,” which meant we were on a collision course with the other ship. The captain then ordered the signalman, “signal that ship: we are on a collision course, advise you change course 20 degrees.” Back came a signal, “advisable for you to change course 20 degrees.” The captain said, “I’m a captain, change course 20 degrees.” “I’m a seaman second class,” came the reply. “You had better change course 20 degrees.” By that time, the captain was furious. He spat out, “I’m a battleship. Change course 20 degrees.” Back came the flashing light, “I’m a lighthouse.” The battleship changed course.

Lighthouses don’t move. Guided by principles and laws. We have the privilege of developing qualities. By following guiding principles if developed from our conscience, will not run us to dry ground.

We can become the type of individuals who will inspire others to be the best they can be and provide exceptional service. The more you practice following your conscience the stronger it will become. The result will be one of pleasure and prosperity throughout all areas of your life. True joy comes from positive interactions with others. May you have the courage to listen and obey your conscience throughout your life and to be able to teach others to do the same.
