Clothes That Fit

Wearing clothes that fit will go a long way in improving your personal image and brand. Fit is key to building a polished and put together look. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on clothes to create an impactful professional look. The secret is in the fit of each clothing item. Do not wear clothes that are too tight, that show bulges, and also avoid wearing clothes that are too loose.

Sometimes it is easy to get sidetracked into thinking that the size is the important factor. When you purchase the appropriate size for your body, and then go the extra mile if needed to invest in having your clothes tailored, you will create the most pleasing look possible. By having your clothes tailored, you will look like you have lost weight and are in better shape.

When your image is polished and put together you will have more confidence and your words become more impactful.

Go through your closet today and purge those clothes that don’t fit! Happy shopping tomorrow!

Integrity

Integrity

The late 90’s were a period of testing for me as it relates to integrity. I recall once a co-worker who I will call “Cindy” commented that I had and showed great integrity. That statement has been a measuring stick for me through the years that have followed.

This trait seems to be lacking in many organizations and individuals. When you try to take a shortcut around integrity you only end up hurting yourself. I saw this firsthand. I had a senior level manager tell me that he heard that my position with a company I was working for might be eliminated. Instead of asking the owner of the company if this was true, I allowed myself to go down a path with an employee that did not show integrity. I should have confronted the situation.

That experience taught me a great deal. The first lesson that faith and fear cannot live in the same space. Second, I sold my integrity based on the fear of losing a paycheck. Choosing the right can be a lonely path. Keeping your integrity intact, is the path to peace.

Currently, I am reading a book called Integrity Selling – Ron Willingham. In this book he shares several Integrity Selling Success Principles. One of my favorites is:

“Selling success is more an issue of who you are than what you know. While knowledge is necessary, sustained success comes to the person who’s driven by strong values and ethics.”

This statement is so true. We buy people. When we make the decision to trust or invest our resources, the who is the deciding factor. If you desire to build a stronger business or happier life check your values. Integrity does not have varying degrees. You either have it and show it or you don’t.

I know that when you have integrity success will be sure to come.

Listening – The Secret To Success

listening-babe
This past weekend I was cleaning my desk and came across a personality profile assessment I had taken years ago. As I reviewed this assessment one of the concerns or potential problem areas mentioned was my ability to listen. This assessment is now seven years old. I hope that if I were to take it again today listening would not be an indicator for concern!

As a coach and consultant, listening is critical to success. Listening – deep concerted listening is a skill we all can get. One of the best ways I have found to build this skill is to check-in and see if I’m present in the conversation.

To check-in I reflect back in my head first, what the individual I was talking to said and then reflect back to them what I heard. Another strategy I use is to turn-off and away from all distractions.

When meeting with a client on the phone, I turn off email and other noise making alert devices. That enables me to focus on what someone said and to seek for the meaning of what is not spoken.

Great leaders are great listeners. Thus if you want to aspire to leadership opportunities then working on your listening skills is imperative. Another benefit of listening is that your confidence will increase.

Listening is a fundamental principle and if applied to every part of our life will enhance our experience. If you want to connect on a deeper level with your children – stop talking and listen. Ask open-ended questions and then stay focused on their answers. The more you do so the deeper your relationship will become.

I am grateful for the lessons I have had in business and life on the importance of being present and focusing on how to be a better listener. Now when I take an assessment, listening will be one of my strengths rather than a concern.

Positivity

If you want more positivity in your life then you can achieve that goal today by turning off the news! Yes it’s good to be informed, but if you get distracted from achieving your winning edge then avoiding the headlines is your key to success.

I realized this years ago. I was a news junkie. What I began to realize though is it was impacting my attitude and profitability. By turning off the news and focusing on positivity I am able to stay clear in my mind and heart. Light attracts light. Just as avoiding negative individuals paves the way to untapped potential. Positive individuals on the other hand should be your quest.

You always have a choice to seek out positivity or negativity. Think about today how negativity has thwarted your growth. Staying in a winning edge mindset will open your world of possibilities without end.

Try it today – turn off the news and let positivity flow freely into your life!

Listening – a dying art?

listening

Recently I have been speaking to several groups on how to listen more effectively. As I have researched how this skill can be enhanced I have been amazed at the things I have learned. Some researchers have noted that listening is becoming a dying art.

First off, if we want to improve confidence then becoming a better listener is critical. If we are too busy listening to what is going on inside our own heads we will miss the opportunities of progress and fulfillment going on in the world around us.

Here are some tips to enhance your ability to listen:

1. Observe non-verbals
2. Focus on the speaker
3. Give listening cues
4. Don’t interrupt
5. Clarify points
6. Paraphrase
7. Wait for feedback

Listening – just as with anything in life can be learned. We can increase our abilities on whatever we focus on. It takes awareness and practice.

Mistakes and Big Oops

Mistakes-and-Big-Oops-e1378493521644-764x1024

Have you ever made a big mistake? My Mom would occasionally make a salad that consisted of a pear, scoop of cottage cheese and Miracle Whip on top. This may sound unappetizing to some but it is actually tasty. Sometimes when I am longing for my home I will make this concoction.

One day I made this for lunch and went to put a little paprika on it and I goofed! Instead of opening the lid with the sprinkles I opened the larger lid that you pour from. This was a big oops – see picture! No matter what we may do to prevent making mistakes, they will come.
mistakes
The trick is to laugh at them, learn from them and sometimes start over. That is exactly what I did with this little salad. What mistakes do you need to move on from? Start today and enjoy the fruit of your labor.

I got braces!

What was I thinking?

All my life I have hated the dentist with great PASSION! Growing up my teeth were a little bit crowded. My upper front teeth were a little crossed – not bad – but it always bothered me.

I have always had individuals tell me I had a beautiful smile. But again those front teeth always bothered me. Many years ago, my sister-in-law Kathy got braces she was in her late thirties or early forties. I really admired her for doing that. At the time I asked her if they hurt – she said yes.

As I have aged through the years my teeth have also been moving. My bottom teeth were actually at two different levels. On a whim I decided to see an orthodontist and get an evaluation. I met with this very hi-tech practitioner and left very discouraged. What I thought might be a simple process I learned would not be and would be very expensive.
